Tips for Keeping Warm

Turn these tips into a weekend project that'll keep the cold outside and your heating bills down. The last thing you want in your apartment is all of that cold seeping in through windows or floorboards and finding out your heat is not working effectively when you really start to need it. By following these 6 quick and easy steps to winterize or prepare your rental for the cold, you can count on being able to sit toasty in your rental, drinking hot cocoa, just as it should be.

Cover Bare Floorboards - Floors account for as much as 10% of heat loss if they're not insulated.

Add Moisture to the Air - Run a small humidifier or two in your apartment – moisture in the air helps a room retain heat, and it’s less expensive than turning up thermostat.

Shower With the Door Open - Leaving the door open while you shower lets warm, steamy air travel through the rest of your house.

Swap Out Your Bedding - If your bedroom has large windows or is facing an outside wall, consider swapping out your bedding for the season. There are countless flannel and thermal sheet sets to choose from. Or, if you don’t like direct heat, you can layer on some extra throw blankets.
